A former NFL wide receiver has slammed Clemson football’s recruitment strategy, as he claimed that there are too many ‘white dudes’ on the team after a heavy loss.
Roddy White — an Atlanta Falcons Ring of Honor inductee — took to social media to lash out at the Tigers after they threw away a potential upset of No. 1 Georgia on Saturday, considering the Bulldogs only had a six-point lead at halftime over their rivals.
Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck threw two touchdowns in the second half, one to Nate Frazier and another to Crash Jones, to seal the deal in a 34-3 blowout win.
After the game, White, 42, called out Clemson’s lack of diversity on its team.
‘Clemson got way to (sic) many White dudes on the field on offense this ain’t them. U mean to tell me u only got one Black dude out there making plays that’s a recruiting problem,’ he posted on X.
White played for the UAB Blazers for three seasons (2001-04), logging 3,112 receiving yards for 163 receptions.
However, it’s hard to argue that race is correlation to Clemson’s demise over the last three seasons, considering that they haven’t beaten Georgia since 2013.
In fact, what made Georgia’s 31-point demolition of the 14th-ranked Tigers in Atlanta notable was just how unsurprising it was.
‘When you get beat like that, that’s on the head coach,’ Swinney told reporters. ‘Complete ownership of an absolute c*** second half. Sometimes you get your butt kicked and we did today.’
The Bulldogs aren’t the defending champions – No. 9 Michigan has that title – but at 43-2 with two national titles since the start of the 2021 season they are the standard in college football.
This run of dominance for Kirby Smart’s squad began against Clemson in the ’21 opener. That night in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Bulldogs beat the Tigers 10-3 without an offensive touchdown.
It’s been a one-sided affair ever since.
‘People say whatever they are going to say,’ Swinney said. ‘Doesn´t matter what I say. We do what´s best for Clemson. When you lose like this, they´ve got every right to say whatever they want and write whatever you want.’
The Bulldogs lead the series over their rivals, 44–18–4.
