Brady noted that his successful career has forced a tough conversation in his marriage since Bündchen put work on hold to raise the pair’s kids. “It’s a very difficult issue to reconcile without just saying, ‘Hey, it’s time to retire,'” he said on his “Let’s Go” podcast. “And I think there’s, you know, we’re coming to the end here too, so I don’t want to miss any of the kids’ stuff.”

The athlete continued: “I think my wife has, you know, held down the house for a long time now, and I think there’s things that she wants to accomplish. You know, she hasn’t worked as much in the last 10, 12 years just raising our family and kind of committing to being in a life in Boston and then moving to Florida.”

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback revealed that he was taking Bündchen into account when thinking about stepping back from football. “My wife is my biggest supporter. It pains her to see me get hit out there,” Brady said on an episode of his “Let’s Go!” podcast. “She deserves what she needs from me as a husband and my kids deserve what they need from me as a dad.” Adding that he wanted to spend as much time with the supermodel and their children as possible, Brady addressed his next big career move.

“I’m gonna spend some time with them and give them what they need, ’cause they’ve really been giving me what I need the last six months to do what I love to do,” he said, referring to the 2021-2022 NFL season. “I said this a few years ago, it’s what relationships are all about.  It’s not always what I want.  It’s what we want as a family.  And I’m gonna spend a lot of time with them and figure out in the future what’s next.”

Brady paid tribute to his Bündchen while announcing his retirement from the NFL after 22 seasons, writing via Instagram, “To my wife, Gisele, and my children, Jack, Benny and Vivi. You are my inspiration. Our family is my greatest achievement.”

The quarterback, who played for the New England Patriots for 20 years and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for two seasons, added: “I always came off the field and home to the most loving and supportive wife who has done EVERYTHING for our family to allow me to focus on my career. Her selflessness allowed me to reach new heights professionally, and I am beyond words what you mean to me and our family. Te amo amor da minha vida.”

The mother of two replied to her husband’s post, writing, “What an incredible ride this has been! You know that we are always here to support you my love. Looking forward to what the future holds. Te amo.”

The pair officially called it quits after nearly 14 years of marriage, announcing their split in separate statements shared via their respective social media accounts. “In recent days, my wife and I finalized our divorce from one another after 13 years of marriage,” Brady wrote via Instagram on October 28. “We arrived at this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together. We are blessed with beautiful and wonderful children who will continue to be the center of our world in every way.”

Bündchen, for her part, added: “With much gratitude for our time together, Tom and I have amicably finalized our divorce. My priority has always been and will continue to be our children whom I love with all my heart. … The decision to end a marriage is never easy but we have grown apart and while it is, of course, difficult to go through something like this, I feel blessed for the time we had together and only wish the best for Tom always.”
