Singer Markus Feehily has said he struggled with his love split as much as he did with Westlife breaking up.
The former boyband star (35) broke up with his boyfriend of seven years, Kevin McDaid, within months of Westlife calling it quits in 2011.
Markus admitted that everything else in his life was in the shadow of his turbulent love life at the time.
The Sligo man admitted his painful split with former V singer Kevin was the inspiration behind his new solo album, along with the struggle of coping with being single after a long-term relationship.
“Every song on the album is about all the different aspects of all the different emotions I went through since Westlife finished,” he said.
“I don’t know which of the two was the worst – the break up of the band or being single and being out there in a very cut-throat world.”
After having a boyfriend for so long, Markus said it was “weird” being single as he had never been without a significant other since coming out as gay.
“This was my first time ever to be single so that was a bit weird,” he told RTE Ten.
“To be in my early thirties and to be single and to be out.
“Any time I was single before that I wasn’t out as being gay.”
Four years on after his break up from Kevin and the Butterfly singer is loved up again with a mystery man who doesn’t work in showbiz.
Speaking recently, Markus admitted he’s “really happy” since finding love again.
“There is someone special and I’m really, really happy at the moment,” he said.
“He’s fantastic. It’s not new and he’s not famous. It’s great to feel secure and happy, it really is.”
