Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes are set to lose a former 5-star recruit to the transfer portal.

Cornerback Cormani McClain previously declared he wasn’t leaving Coach Prime and Colorado. But it appears he’s ready to walk back on that proclamation, as multiple sources have reported that he has decided to enter the portal.

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders yells while coaching a game.

BuffsBeat has confirmed this, while the player is also said to have told On3 his plans.

McClain flipped from Miami to join the Buffs in a shocking move on signing day, leaving the Hurricanes looking silly after head coach Mario Cristobal and his staff went to his high school to celebrate. The player was already on his way to join Coach Prime in Boulder.

He tried to make an immediate impact for the Colorado Buffaloes, playing in nine games and making four starts. He enjoyed a breakout game against USC, though it came at the cost of a loss.

Deion Sanders famously called McClain out over a lack of effort and commitment last September.

Study, prepare, be on time for meetings, show up to the dern meetings,” the Buffs coach told reporters. “Understand what we’re doing as a scheme. Want to play this game… Desire to play this game. Desire to be the best in this game– at practice, in the film room and in your own free time.

Colorado Buffaloes Lost 27 Players To The Transfer Portal This Year

McClain ended the season with 13 tackles as the Colorado Buffaloes finished 4-8. He was expected to improve under new defensive coordinator Robert Livingston, who spent several years coaching the secondary for the Cincinnati Bengals, but he’s now expected to transfer to the program he originally committed to: Miami.

The 20-year-old will be the 10th Colorado Buffaloes player to enter the transfer portal since Monday.

The team has lost a total of 27 athletes this year but also has 27 new faces. They will take to the field again soon, with their Black and Gold Spring Game set for April 27.
