Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese makes history after breaking WNBA record only 17 games into her career

Angel Reese’s name is being written in the history books less than 20 games into her WNBA career.

The Chicago Sky rookie became the first player in the history of the league to put up 10 consecutive double-doubles in a single season.

She finished with 10 points and 16 rebounds during her team’s 70-62 loss to the Minnesota Lynx Sunday evening, surpassing future Hall of Famer Candace Parker’s record nine double-doubles in 2015.

The 22-year-old’s mom, also named Angel, sat courtside during the game at Wintrust Arena, where it initially seemed like Reese would fall short.

However, on the Sky’s final offensive possession, she was fouled and went to the line.

Although she missed the first free throw, the second shot brought her total up to 10 points, and the crowd went wild as her mother looked on emotionally.

she was fouled on a box out and went to the line.

‘She knows what she does best,’ Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon told reporters earlier in the week.

‘The one thing about her is that she is incredibly hard on herself. As far as rebounding the ball, we knew that would translate over [from college]. And she’s getting a better understanding of how to score around the rim. She’s learning and she’s learning fast.’

Not only has Reese been making headlines for her skills on the court, but also for the drama surrounding her long-running rivalry with Caitlin Clark.

‘People are pulling up to games, we have celebrities coming to games, sold out arenas. Just because of one single game,’ the former LSU superstar said about her matchup against Clark and the Indiana Fever earlier this month.

‘And just looking at that… I’ll take that role. I’ll take the bad guy role and I’ll continue to take that on – and be that for my teammates.’

Reese had caused uproar that night following her teammate Chennedy Carter’s brutal bodycheck on Clark – the No. 1 WNBA Draft pick.

After Carter shoved her to the ground unprovoked, they received fierce criticism for appearing to laugh about the foul together while making their way off the court.
