Metronet worker dies after being run over by a Tesla in Bayswater, Perth

A worker on Western Australia’s Metronet rail project has died after being run over by a car.

Paramedics and the police were called to Halliday Park in Bayswater, Perth, shortly after midday after reports a man had been hit by a vehicle.

The subcontractor was working at the Bayswater train station site, which is just weeks away from being finished.

Workers often relax in the park during their breaks and it is understood that the man was lying down when he was struck by the car.

‘We are aware of a tragic incident that occurred close to the New Bayswater Station Project, involving one of our team,’ a Metronet spokesperson said.

‘The matter is currently under investigation by WA Police, but Metronet can confirm the incident did not occur on the worksite of the New Bayswater Station Project.’

Western Australia Police are investigating.

WA’s Construction, Forestry and Maritime Employees Union state secretary Mick Buchan sent his condolences to the man’s family, who he understood to be foreign.

‘We’ll be sure to make sure that family is taken care of,’ he said.
