Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s relationship has been the talk of the town lately, with alleged Hollywood sources spilling the details of their long-gestating divorce. According to these sources, Affleck’s decision to pursue a split is partially rooted in his sobriety.

Apparently, Jennifer Lopez’s lavish lifestyle was posing a “risk” to Affleck’s sobriety, which he’s worked hard to maintain since succumbing to alcoholism in the late 2010s and multiple stints in rehab.

As one source put it, “The marriage was incredibly overwhelming – J.Lo lives a very glam lifestyle, and he was often faced with temptation.” Affleck, who has struggled with addiction for years, was said to be “risking his sobriety in that environment” and had to leave to “avoid his worst nightmare – a relapse.”

While Affleck and Lopez have yet to file for divorce officially, rumors of their split have been persistent for months now. The couple has rarely been spotted together this summer, and they’ve even put their massive $68 million Los Angeles mansion up for sale.

Affleck’s marriage to J-Lo became a temptation

Affleck and Lopez’s relationship has been a rollercoaster ride, to say the least. Despite their pending divorce, Affleck and Lopez still have professional ties. J-Lo’s new movie Unstoppable, which premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival next month, was produced by Affleck’s company Artists Equity.

It’s a shame to see this high-profile couple’s relationship come to an end, but it’s understandable that Affleck’s sobriety had to take priority.
