Kansas City Chiefs superstar Travis Kelce revealed his choice for the best player at this year’s “Tight End University” camp.
In 2021, Travis Kelce, San Francisco 49ers star George Kittle and former Carolina Panthers Pro Bowler Greg Olsen began hosting the TEU camp for fellow NFL tight ends. This year’s event was hosted at Vanderbilt University.
When “Bussin With’ The Boys” asked Kelce who the best tight end was at this year’s camp, the three-time Super Bowl champion gave an interesting answer that will surprise you (WARNING: VIDEO CONTAINS LANGUAGE THAT IS NSFW):
“(Sam) LaPorta had a (expletive) year, dude. LaPorta had a year last year…I’m seeing where he goes his second year. His first year, he killed it,”
Travis Kelce was asked who the BEST TE is at TEU
His Answer: Detroit Lions TE Sam LaPorta
“LaPorta had a f*cking year last year…”

The Lions hit the jackpot when they drafted LaPorta in the second round (34th overall) last year. LaPorta finished with 86 catches for 889 yards and 10 touchdowns, leading Detroit to their first division title in 30 years. His 86 receptions set a new single-season record for a rookie tight end.
Travis Kelce remains the golden standard among NFL tight ends, though the future Hall of Famer is about to enter his age-35 season. So with Kelce nearing the end of his prime years, it may not be long until LaPorta (or someone else) replaces the Chiefs superstar as the top TE in the game.
Travis Kelce & Chiefs Aim For Three-Peat
No team in NFL history has completed a three-peat, but the Chiefs are already two-thirds of the way there. The 1990 San Francisco 49ers and 1994 Dallas Cowboys were somewhat close, losing in the NFC title game after winning back-to-back championships.
If there’s one team that can achieve the historic first, it’s the Chiefs. They have the league’s best head coach in Andy Reid, the NFL best player in Patrick Mahomes and of course the No. 1 TE in the game.
