(TC) Asante Samuel Says “It’s Impossible for Patrick Mahomes to Dethrone Tom Brady as GOAT”

The Kansas City Chiefs won their third Super Bowl title in the last five years, and many people have begun to place QB Patrick Mahomes among the GOAT conversation along with Tom Brady.

This argument will continue to happen, as many believe that Mahomes is on track or even surpassing the greatness that Brady accomplished in his career. However, Asante Samuel discussed how impossible it truly is for Mahomes to ever catch Brady on Say What Needs to Be Said.
“My opinion is it is damn near impossible for Patrick Mahomes to dethrone Tom Brady as the number one GOAT. It is damn near impossible for Patrick Mahomes to dethrone Tom Brady’s number one GOAT status. Right? If you look at the body of work, not the accolades, because we all know accolades come from popularity and perception and perception driven.”

Samuel is reminding everyone about the difference between accolades and body of work. Accolades could be an honor given at the NFL Honors, but it does not translate to mean the same thing as winning a Super Bowl title. Brady has seven rings to prove just that.
“So we know that Brady has seven Super Bowl victories, six with one organization and one during a pandemic, defeating Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. How are you going to beat that? Eight Super Bowl victories aren’t enough for Patrick Mahomes to say he dethroned Tom Brady. I say he needs at least ten to dethrone Tom Brady.”

Brady and Mahomes have only faced off in the Super Bowl once, and Brady was the victor. Unfortunately, Mahomes will never get his revenge game, as Brady has since retired. Mahomes is also 0-2 in the playoffs overall, as the Chiefs were knocked off in 2019 in the AFC Championship game.

One could argue that Mahomes not defeating Brady in the playoffs is enough to secure his GOAT status.

Samuel believes it will take Mahomes at least 10 Super Bowl victories to even come close to the GOAT status. Brady was so dominant in his years that he won six rings with the Patriots, then left to lead the Bucs to a Super Bowl.

It was a brand-new team and his first year with them. Brady might have secured his GOAT status for life by accomplishing that feat alone.
