The 2024 NFL draft is hurtling towards reality and while teams are conveying calm, there are a bunch of anxious coaching staffs right now. None more so than the group in Dallas, who are all on the final year of their contracts amidst a business season that say attrition with little gains to the roster.

22: Philadelphia Eagles – Edge Chop Robinson
23: Minnesota Vikings – CB Nate Wiggins
24: Dallas Cowboys – OL Graham Barton
With the predicament Dallas finds themselves in, they should thank their lucky stars someone like Duke OL Graham Barton could make it to 24. Not only is he a powerhouse, he’s technically sound and can play any of the five OL spots. He may not be the biggest or strongest but this type of versatility doesn’t grow on trees. With how little depth Dallas has at every spot, Barton brings as much insurance and talent as a single prospect possibly could. His short-term role would be anywhere from center, left guard or left tackle and long-term he could be the heir to Zack Martin as the leader of this offensive line.

53: Philadelphia Eagles – Safety Kamren Kinchens
54: Cleveland Browns – Edge Chris Braswell
55: Miami Dolphins – QB Michael Penix Jr.
56: Dallas Cowboys – LB Payton Wilson
Wolfpack alum Payton Wilson would likely be the consensus LB1 if it wasn’t for his lengthy injury history, which includes dual ACL tears in just a couple years dating back to his high school days. This awful luck did not stop him from competing however as he proved himself as one of the best linebackers in this class.
He has true three-level impact as one of the only prospects that can shoot a gap in the run game and drop back into coverage comfortably. The injury history is certainly a concern but what’s NFL draft season without the Cowboys taking a flyer in the second round?

84: Pittsburg Steelers – DT Braden Fiske
85: Cleveland Browns – RB Jonathon Brooks
86: Houston Texans – RB Will Shipley
87: Dallas Cowboys – DT T’Vondre Sweat
Dallas chose not to address nose tackle in free agency so it gets added to the list of positions they must address this weekend. While it may seem redundant considering 2023 first round selection Mazi Smith, the combo of a new and improved Smith with the monstrous T’Vondre Sweat would make for a terrifying rotation of run stoppers.
Sweat dominated with the Longhorns but provides little upside as a pass rush so his role settles as a potential elite nose tackle given his size and strength. New DC Mike Zimmer has a long history of elite nose tackle play and Sweat could very easily add to that list.
