Last Wednesday, the football running-back-turned actor, OJ Simpson died of prostate cancer. However, his death doesn’t appear as unfortunate for the fans as it has been for the entire NFL industry.

Just a few hours after the announcement of his demise, ‘Rest in Hell’ was found to be trending on social media. It all links back to the infamous 1995 trial for a double murder that Simpson faced– called the “trial of the century” as per the U.S. media. He was accused of stabbing to death, his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman in 1994. However, as the Los Angeles jury found him not guilty, he was acquitted.

But he was later convicted on 12 counts of armed robbery and kidnapping two sports memorabilia dealers at gunpoint, in 2008 and served nine years of imprisonment.

Despite the hatred from the fans, the NFL industry didn’t forget to pay their respect to the former running back. As the Philadelphia Eagles star running back Darius Slay shared a two-word reaction on the unfortunate demise of Simpson, writing, “R.I.P OJ.”

Fans react to Darius Slay paying respect to OJ Simpson

Fans didn’t seem to appreciate star NFL players such as Slay paying his respect to the most hated athlete of all time, Simpson. That’s why fans didn’t hold back from slamming Slay, for acting ignorant towards Simpson’s wrongdoing when he paid his respect to the American football star on X.

One fan wrote, “This guy makes himself impossible to like. Jfc.” while another wrote, “Rot in hell Oj.” Even though Simpson was acquitted, fans don’t seem to forgive him just yet. Here are some of the fan reactions:

Fans aren’t the only ones who don’t have any nice words for Simpson. As TMZ Sports found, Gloria Allred, who represented Nicole Brown’s family during the trial said:

The truth about OJ Simpson can never be erased and should never be forgotten. OJ Simpson is dead. May his victims finally rest in peace.

Even one of O.J.’s closest friends wrote on her X, “Good riddance” after hearing the demise of Simspon.
