Tom Brady is grabbing headlines on a Sunday, just like he used to during his time in the NFL with the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This time, though, he’s back in the limelight because of something entirely different from what he became famous for. During Sunday’s The Roast of Tom Brady, the former NFL quarterback’s tolerance for jokes was put to an absolute test. However, he also got to take shots at others, including the NFL itself.
During a moment in the event, Brady touched on the subject of “Deflategate” and roasted the NFL for it.
“Remember deflategate? The NFL spent $20 million and found that it was more probable than not that I was generally aware that someone may have deflated my footballs. You could have just given me the $20 million, and I would just told you I f**king did it.”
Unfortunately for everyone who watched the event, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was not in attendance. It would have been so much fun if people got to see his constant reaction to that hilarious jab from the seven-time Super Bowl champion.
To set the record straight, Tom Brady did not admit to anything. Deflategate, to him, is perhaps nothing more than just a topic worthy as material for events like, well, live roasting. At the height of the controversy, Brady had to seek legal help to fight the suspension the NFL slapped him. He was successful in that regard in 2015 because he was able to play that year’s NFL campaign. However, he ultimately accepted the league’s penalty and spent the first four games of the 2016 NFL campaign off the field to serve his suspension. On that of Brady’s suspension, the Patriots were also stripped of two draft picks in the 2016 NFL Draft and fined a total of $1 million.
For what it’s worth, the Patriots managed to win three of four games during his time away from the team. Once he returned, Brady used his burning desire to have the last laugh amid the controversy to fuel the Patriots into winning 11 of 12 games. And oh, the Patriots also won the Super Bowl that season in epic fashion, defeating the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl 51 despite being down by as many as 25 points (28-3) in the contest.

Many took it upon themselves to point out to everyone, who may be thinking they just heard Brady confess, that it was all a joke. Suprise!
“No, he’s saying instead of wasting the 20 million to find out if he did it, give him the $20 million and he would just say he did it whether true or not,” said @uncletyler_eth.
“He was saying that he would say it for $20 mil like he was saying he would do anything for $20 mil he wasn’t admitting to it he was saying he would say he did it if it meant he got $20 million”
“Brady got up there drunk asf and started to yap 😭😭,” commented @Davethe_King1.
“Took some balls. Deflated ones. But took them nonetheless,” joked @CincyHub.
“Pretty sure he was more making a joke that he’d admit to anything for $20 mil,” said @Stark_AJ199.
“Still beat the garbage colts by like 40 points. Don’t think the pats defense benefited at all,”chimed in @_paytonjames.
