Football fans are feeling horrible for Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield after his heartbreaking reaction to his game-sealing interception on Sunday.

Mayfield’s incredible comeback season ended with a tough 31-23 road loss to the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. The Lions sealed the deal when Derrick Barnes intercepted Mayfield’s pass over the middle after the two-minute warning:

It was hard not to feel for Mayfield after his heartbreaking reaction, and he got plenty of sympathy from fans on social media:

Although I was rooting for the #Lions, I kinda felt bad for Baker Mayfield after seeing his reaction to the INT 😔

Feel bad for Baker. But I had a feeling it would end with an INT. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I remember you doing that. People said you were crazy. Guy was that close to the NFC title game. I’m happy for the Lions for sure, but kinda feel bad for Baker. Wish the Broncos had him

Honestly feel really bad for Baker Mayfield. He actually played remarkably well. To beat the Lions, he needed to not have those 2 interceptions.

But such a stat block is absurd to be required to beat a team like the Lions.

Gonna be wild Championships this year #DETvsTB

The Bucs didn’t accomplish their ultimate goal, but the fact they were this-close to an unlikely return to the NFC Championship Game is nothing to be ashamed of. Mayfield showed the rest of the NFL that he is a starting QB in this league, be it with the Bucs or somewhere else.
