She also offered more insight into the process of making the forthcoming record, titled “The Tortured Poets Department.”

Turns out Grammys gold was every Swiftie’s good luck charm this past Sunday.

Taylor Swift has revealed that she didn’t plan to announce her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, at the 2024 awards ceremony but did because she won. The singer kicked off her first Eras Tour dates of 2024 in Tokyo on Wednesday, and she took the opportunity to let fans in on the little secret.

“Going in, I had this plan in my head, and I told my friends — I told Jack [Antonoff, Midnights producer], but I hadn’t really told very many other people,” Swift divulged to the audience during the Evermore set of her concert, as seen in a fan-posted video. “I thought, ‘Okay, so if I’m lucky enough to get up there and win one thing tonight, I’m just going to do it. I’m just going to announce my new album.'”

She added, “And luckily enough, that ended up happening. My backup plan was that I was gonna do it tonight in Tokyo!” (Sorry, Tokyo Night 1ers.)

But even if those Eras attendees ultimately missed out on the big moment happening at their show, Swift gave them a few more details than what she revealed on Grammys night.

“I’ve been working on Tortured Poets since right after I turned in Midnights,” she told a screaming crowd. “So I started working on it immediately after that, and I’ve been working on it for about two years. I kept working on it throughout the U.S. tour, and when it was perfect in my opinion — when it was good enough for you — I finished it.”

Swift continued, “And I am so, so excited that soon you’ll get to hear it and soon we’ll get to experience it together. I’m over the moon about the fact that you guys care about my music. It still blows my mind.”

The news of Swift’s forthcoming album, which is slated for release April 19, came as a shock to most fans, considering she’s been re-releasing her first six records, has been on the worldwide Eras Tour since last March, and in October released the record-breaking Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film. She took the time to address this, too.

“Everyone is like, ‘Why do you make so many albums?’ And I’m just like, ‘Man, because I love it. I love it so much.'”

“I’m having fun. Leave me alone,” she joked.
