Rams QB Matthew Stafford announced his decision to return for the 2024 season earlier this year as he continues to chase another Super Bowl opportunity. A clip from the team’s YouTube channel showed what went into that decision, and what it means to the entire Stafford family to cherish the final moments of his NFL career.
Kelly Stafford made an appearance in that segment, giving insight on both the passer’s past and future in pro football. While she’s excited for the next step in her husband’s career, she’s hoping it isn’t overshadowed by another popular storyline…
The WAG has been with Matthew Stafford since their time at UGA, following him through every step of his NFL tenure. That includes stops in both Detroit and Los Angeles, where he hoisted the 2022 Lombardi trophy.
The couple detailed that journey, as well as a return to the Motor City, in an all-access documentary of Locked In with Matthew Stafford.
The focus of the episode was on a game between the Rams and Lions in Detroit. Though Stafford would fall to his former team 24-23, he expressed gratitude for his time with the franchise.
Near the end of the segment, though, the focus shifted back to Los Angeles.
“There comes a point at the end of every season where you ask, ‘How long can I continue to do this?’ he said.
Kelly is heard responding, “We need one more [Super Bowl],” to which the QB replies, “I’m in.”
Matthew Stafford knows he’s getting closer to retirement, but there’s still a little left in the tank! He’ll be back for at least one more season in LA. His wife doesn’t want that campaign to be overshadowed by another popular NFL couple.
Kelly Stafford is tired of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
As we all know, the dating rumors overtook the 2023-24 pro football season – some would go as far as to say overshadowed!
A running storyline during the Chiefs‘ Super Bowl run, television broadcasts would frequently pan to the Kelce suite in order to catch the pop star’s entrances and in-game reactions.
Come playoff time, it was seemingly all anyone could talk about, which was exactly what the NFL wanted given the incredible monetary boost Swift provided with her presence.
That exposure even led to conspiracy theories about the league wanting to keep Kansas City in the postseason in order to continue benefitting from the “Tayvis” relationship.
Fans were getting it from all angles!
Kelly Stafford had about all she could handle last year.
In February, she was heard complaining about the pop star, saying she didn’t want to see Taylor Swift “everywhere” after the Chiefs won the Super Bowl.
“I don’t know if I want to see another four months of Taylor Swift Travis Kelce coverage,” she said on her Morning After podcast.
She doesn’t want the same storyline to interfere with what happening on the field!
Now, in reality, those television networks limited the time they showed Swift on air, often times taking up less than a minute of the broadcasts.
Still, with social media and the never-ending array of sport and entertainment outlets, it often seemed impossible to completely escape.
That likely will be a theme seen throughout next season, no matter Kelly Stafford’s opinion. At least she has the offseason!
