Zalgiris Kaunas have already begun the preparation for the upcoming season, and head coach Andrea Trinchieri shared his goals for the 2024-25 campaign.

The Italian coach spoke to Messaggero Veneto newspaper, highlighting that securing the EuroLeague Play-In spot will be one of the main goals.

“I expect one fundamental thing: to build a team that plays together,” Trinchieri told Messaggero Veneto. “Last year, we were not good enough. We want to try to be competitive, which means winning the championship and doing our best in the EuroLeague, reaching the Top 10.”

Trinchieri once again emphasized the strength of the EuroLeague, claiming that the competition becomes stronger with every new season.

“It’s a monstrous competition. Every year, there are stronger teams; we only compete with ourselves. I don’t want to look at the other teams; I’ll look at my own. I’ll try to propose something new and creative,” Trinchieri said.

The Italian coach is well-known for his charisma, having many memorable with the fans, media, and during the games.

Trinchieri named one thing that European basketball lacks so it could have even more such interactions.

“We need content. The games are already there, they can be watched live and streamed, and highlights can be rewatched in a thousand different ways. What we need are stories and, as I said before, content,” Trinchieri said.

Trinchieri also shared his thoughts on the 2024 Paris Olympic basketball tournament, admitting he enjoyed it very much.

“It was extraordinary. The knockout stage was played at a fantastic level. The USA almost didn’t make it, but they were better and won the gold,” the coach summarized the tournament.

When asked what Serbia lacked to beat Team USA in the semifinal, Trinchieri provided a very simple answer.

“One possession and one less Curry,” Trinchieri said. “Dobric’s open 3-pointer, if made, would have given the Serbians a great advantage. Then there was Curry, who is one of a kind and plays for the USA.”
