Ben Affleck and his ex-wife Jennifer Garner’s daughter Violet is using her voice to spread awareness and fight for change in Los Angeles, California.

Violet, 18, spoke at a city board meeting in Los Angeles on July 9 about the need for mask mandates in the city’s hospitals. The former couple’s oldest child got candid in her speech, divulging the health issues that ensued after contracting a post-viral condition.

“Hi, Violet Affleck, Los Angeles resident, first-time voter. I’m 18. I contracted a post-viral condition in 2019,” she said. “I’m OK now, but I saw first-hand that medicine does not always have answers to the consequences of even minor viruses.”

According to the U.S. Sun, “a post-viral condition, also known as long Covid, occurs after a viral infection, per the Mayo Clinic.” Some of the symptoms associated with a post-viral condition include “fatigue, lethargy, memory loss, and an inability to focus,” according to the news publication.

She further added: “The Covid-19 pandemic has thrown that into sharper relief.”

Violet continued on, reminding city board members how dire Covid-19 was and why it needs to continue to be taken seriously even though it’s no longer a pandemic.

“One in 10 infections leads to long Covid, which is a devastating neurological and cardiovascular illness that can take away people’s ability to work, see, move and even think,” Violet outlined.

“It stands to exacerbate our homelessness crisis, as well as the suffering of many people in our city. It hits communities of color, disabled people, elderly people, trans people, women, and anyone in a public-facing essential job the hardest.”

Violet insisted that the board to make masks mandatory in medical facilities and other public places where Covid-19 could be circulated.

“To confront the long Covid crisis, I demand mask availability, air filtration and far-UVC lights in government facilities, including jails and detention centers, and mask mandates in county medical facilities,” she said.

Violet urged, “We must expand the availability of free tests and treatment, and, most importantly, the county must oppose mask bans for any reason.”

She concluded: “They do not keep us safer. They make vulnerable members of our community less safe and make everyone less able to participate in Los Angeles together. Thank you.”

Violet does practice what she preaches, often being pictured in a mask.

According to The U.S. Sun, “Violet has often been seen sporting a medical mask, including when she attended Michael Rubin’s White Party last year with her dad, Ben, 51, and his current wife, Jennifer Lopez, 54.”
