Putting the record straight: Dua Lipa’s alleged casting in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy debunked!
If you’ve been scrolling through social media lately, you might have noticed some interesting news—rumors swirling that Dua Lipa is being considered for a role in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman: Legacy movie. Fans of the superhero and the pop star were giddy with anticipation, but before you get too carried away, let’s do some fact-checking.
Although the Dance the Night hitmaker acknowledged her love for the Superman character, saying she has been a fan for a long time and wants to “create a perfect song” that pays tribute to his legacy, there is not any official word that she will feature in the film. Neither the singer, 28, nor DC Studios have made any announcements about their collaboration on the much-awaited project. In addition, even Gunn has made no mention of her role in interviews or on social media.

The Truth Behind Dua Lipa’s Casting Rumor in Superman: Legacy
Rumors can spread like wildfire, particularly when it comes to highly anticipated DC Universe (DCU) projects. One such rumor that has been circulating for some time is the possible involvement of pop sensation Dua Lipa in James Gunn’s upcoming flick, Superman: Legacy. But before you jump to any conclusions, let’s examine the facts more closely.
While the rumors about Lipa’s role in Superman: Legacy may be unfounded, there is no denying her love for the iconic character. Also, word has leaked out that she will be performing a song for Gunn’s film. According to X, the London-born singer-songwriter, 28, stated in the Variety interview:
“I have been a fan of the character for years and I want to create a perfect song that honors its legacy.”
Dua Lipa’s ‘Dance the Night’
In her statement about wanting to create a song that honors Superman’s legacy, Lipa has shown her deep affection and admiration for the Man of Steel. While this assertion may appear to be a tease of her participation in the movie, it’s important to note that she did not explicitly confirm any potential casting news.
Given Dua Lipa’s commercial success, it would be hardly shocking if the makers asked her to contribute to the soundtrack of Superman: Legacy. Having said that, there is no assurance that she will feature in the film.

Recently, the cast of James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy officially gathered in Atlanta following a table read in preparation for filming. In honor of the event, the writer-director posted the first group shot of the cast on Instagram. The director of Guardians of the Galaxy penned a caption:
“After the table read with the ‘Superman’ cast. Eve, Mr. Terrific, Superman/Clark, Otis, Lex, producer Peter Safran, Jimmy, Metamorpho, Lois, Hawkgirl, me, Guy, The Engineer all together for the first time! What a wonderful day.”
Alongside the title superhero role played by David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan is taking on the role of Lois Lane. Given that Nicholas Hoult is playing Superman’s villain Lex Luthor, fans may have noticed that he has shaved his head in the picture. Along with them were Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Nathan Fillon (Guy Gardner), Isabela Mercad (Hawkgirl), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), and more.
Well, it won’t be wrong to say that Gunn has assembled a stellar cast for his upcoming DC flick.
Thus, under the creative direction of Gunn and co-head of DC Studios Peter Safran, Superman: Legacy will certainly bring the DC Universe back to life on the big screen. In the meantime, let’s keep an eye out for any official casting announcements from the team. Who knows, maybe we will get to hear Dua Lipa’s perfect tribute song to the Man of Steel after all.
Superman: Legacy will open in theaters on July 11, 2025.
