Caitlin Clark may have just signaled her support for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
The Indiana Fever star “liked” self-proclaimed “childless cat lady” Taylor Swift’s Tuesday evening Instagram post endorsing Harris, which came after the vice president faced off against former President Donald Trump in a presidential debate.
“I have this amazing platform, so I think the biggest thing would be just to encourage people to register to vote,” Clark said when asked, in part, if she would endorse Harris. “I think for myself, this is the second time I can vote in an election at age 22. I could vote when I was 18, so I think, do that. That’s the biggest thing I can do with the platform that I have, and that’s the same thing Taylor did. I think continuing to educate yourself with the candidates that we have, the policies that they’re supporting. I think that’s the biggest thing you can do, and that’s what I would recommend to every single person that has that opportunity in our country.”
Clark is one of nearly 4 million Instagram users who “liked” Swift’s endorsement within the hour it was posted.
“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Swift wrote. “I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
The WNBA rookie hasn’t previously been vocal about politics. She has, however, been vocal about her enjoyment of Swift’s music.
There are several videos of Clark dancing and singing along to Swift songs online. Apparently Clark’s favorite song is “Enchanted,” according to a video from her college days with the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Swift, meanwhile, has been up front about her political leanings. Swift previously endorsed President Joe Biden and Harris in 2020.
Swift is set to perform in Indianapolis in November as part of The Eras Tour. It’s unclear if Clark will be in attendance.
