Selena Gomez is shooting back at speculation she’s had cosmetic surgery.

The singer and Emmy-nominated Only Murders in the Building star shared a TikTok comment on Saturday, July 27 denying she’s gone under the knife.

“Honestly I hate this,” wrote Gomez, 32. “I have Botox. That’s it. Leave me alone.”

Her remark was made on a 2023 video shared by Marissa Barrionuevo, a Florida plastic surgeon assistant who makes videos educating viewers about various procedures and often speculates on what work celebrities have had.

In Gomez’s case, the TikToker didn’t make any guesses, noting that Gomez’s lupus diagnosis could be a possible reason for “changes” in her appearance.

“I literally have no idea what she has gotten done,” said Barrionuevo. “I think she’s been through so much in her life, especially medically related, so I don’t think it’s fair to speculate whether or not she’s gotten cosmetic things done. At the end of the day, let’s just leave her be.”

Still, Barrionuevo did share a side-by-side pictures of Gomez, one from her a few years ago and another snapped at the 2023 Golden Globes.

That led for many in the comments to draw their own conclusions, ones in which Gomez appeared to respond to as well.

“I was on stripes because of flare up,” Gomez wrote in her comment, many assuming “stripes” was an autocorrect for “steroids.”

Following Gomez’s response, Barrionuevo posted a second video directly apologizing to her on TikTok on Sunday, July 28.

“I really hope Selena Gomez does not hate me,” she began. “… I agree with you, I do think we should leave you alone and I said that in the video. I totally understand you still not appreciating it.”

Barrionuevo said that she wasn’t sure if Gomez’s comment was directed towards her or the speculation over her appearance in general as she continued to share her sympathies with the star. “You don’t owe it to anyone to tell us why you don’t look the same as what you did when you were a teenager, or in your 20s,” the content creator said. “… So I am sorry if that made you feel any sort of way.”

She went on to say that when she discusses whether celebrities have had cosmetic surgery on her TikTok page, she tries to do it “with so much grace and to not tear people down.”

“That is never, ever my intention when it comes to it,” she said. “I really do mean the best. So I apologize if this rubbed you the wrong way.”

On Sunday, July 28, Gomez shared a series of pictures of herself to Instagram taken over the years

“Faces, phases,” she captioned the post.
