Taylor Swift is speaking out after three children were fatally stabbed and eight other children were injured at a dance class themed around her music in England on July 29.

The singer condemned the violence and sent her condolences to the children’s families in a statement posted July 30 to her Instagram story.

“The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously, and I’m just completely in shock,” she wrote. “The loss of life and innocence, and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families, and first responders. These were just little kids at a dance class. I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families.”

Taylor Swift stabbingThe attack took place at a dance school in Southport, a small seaside town north of Liverpool, per NBC News. The children killed were female and ages 9, 7 and 6, Merseyside police said in a news release. Five of the eight children injured are in critical condition, as are two adults, police said.

A 17-year-old male was arrested in connection to the attack and remains in custody, according to officials. They did not indicate a motive. The attack is not being treated as terror-related, they said.

U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer issued a statement July 29 and called the attack “horrendous and deeply shocking.”

“My thoughts are with all those affected,” he wrote on X. “I would like to thank the police and emergency services for their swift response. I am being kept updated as the situation develops.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales also shared a statement July 29 on X .

“As parents, we cannot begin to imagine what the families, friends and loved ones of those killed and injured in Southport today are going through. We send our love, thoughts and prayers to all those involved in this horrid and heinous attack,” they wrote.

King Charles III also addressed the news, saying in a statement July 29: “My wife and I have been profoundly shocked to hear of the utterly horrific incident in Southport today. We send our most heartfelt condolences, prayers and deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who have so tragically lost their lives, and to all those affected by this truly appalling attack.”
