JENNIFER’S FATHER

Jennifer’s father, Billy Jack Garner, died 10 days before the actress recorded the podcast.

On Monday, April 1, 2024, Jennifer shared on social media that her dad had passed away during Easter weekend at the age of 85.

William John “Billy” Garner studied at Texas A&M University, where he earned his Bachelor of Chemical Engineering in 1961 and his Masters of Chemical Engineering in 1976, per KBTX News 3.

He was father to actress Jennifer Garner and her sisters, Susannah Kay Garner Carpenter and Melissa Garner Wylie.

Billy was married to their mother, Patricia Ann Garner, for nearly 60 years before his death.

On January 1, 2024, Jennifer honored her parents’ 59th wedding anniversary in an Instagram post.

“Happy 59th anniversary to my incredibly sweet and loving parents. Thank you, Mom and Dad, for giving my sisters and me such a secure, happy start to life,” she wrote.

The sisters were born in Texas and raised in Charleston, West Virginia.

William died on Saturday, March 30, 2024, with Jennifer sharing the news in an Instagram post on April 1.

“My dad passed peacefully Saturday afternoon. We were with him, singing Amazing Grace as he left us (did we carry him across or scare him away— valid question.).

“While there is no tragedy in the death of an 85 year old man who lived a healthy, wonderful life, I know grief is unavoidable, waiting around unexpected corners,” she wrote.

“Today is for gratitude,” Jennifer added.

The Catch Me If You Can actress continued, “We are grateful for Dad’s gentle demeanor and quiet strength. For how he teased with a mischievous smile, and for the way he invented the role of all in, ever patient girl dad. We are grateful for his work ethic, leadership and faith.”

While Jennifer did not share William’s cause of death, she revealed that he was treated at Charleston Area Medical Center and City of Hope.

“We extend our gratitude to the medical communities of Charleston Area Medical Center and City of Hope. Your care extended Dad’s life and gave him time to be in his favorite spots— surrounded by daughters and grandchildren, cheering for his beloved Aggies, captaining a boat, and— most of all—next to his wife of 59 years, our Mom,” she continued her post.

“There is so much to say about my dad— my sisters and I will never be done talking about how wonderful he was, so bear with us— but for today I share these memories with my appreciation for the kind and brilliant man, father, and grandfather he was, as well as the loving legacy he left behind.

MEMORABLE MOMENT

In February, Jennifer and Mark Ruffalo, 56, recreated an iconic dance as seen in their 2004 comedy as the Poor Things actor received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

As Jennifer approached the podium to give a speech, the Avengers star did the zombie dance as seen in Michael Jackson’s music video for Thriller – with Jennifer briefly dancing with him.

When it was time to take pictures of the two, they got into their old characters once again.

The dance was featured in the iconic romantic comedy movie 13 Going on 30 – where a 13-year-old girl had her wish come true and woke up as a 30-year-old woman.

In the memorable scene, Jennifer’s character, Jenna Rink, got her boring work party going as she requested the DJ to play Thriller and recited the dance solo.

When she spotted Mark’s character, Matt, in the audience, she begged him to dance with her and eventually got the entire party dancing.

As well as their comedy film, they also starred in the 2022 Action/Sci-Fi movie, The Adam Project, alongside Ryan Reynolds, 47, and Zoe Saldana, 45.
