The United States Presidential Election that takes place in November is going to change a lot of people’s lives in America, many for far more important reasons than others.
The nature of American elections means that celebrity endorsements of candidates carry immense weight, and Taylor Swift chose Tuesday night as the moment to officially endorse Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party rather than Donald Trump and the Republican Party.
Her choice is hardly a surprise given her previous political alignments, but it does fly in the face of her friend Brittany Mahomes who recently liked a social media post from Trump and opted not to distance herself entirely from questions about her support for the former president.
There has been no word from Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, husband of Brittany, about this drama or the election.
That changed on Wednesday when he finally gave reporters something to work with, but his answer was more fence-sitting rather than public support for either candidate, or for Taylor or Brittany.
Mahomes shares his thoughts
“I don’t want my platform to be used to endorse a candidate – either way – I use that to get people registered, do their research and make their best decision for them and their family,” the quarterback told reporters Wednesday.
“Every time I get asked these questions, I’m going to refer back to that because I think that’s what makes America so great.”
“Dating back, if you see my history, I’ve been running with people from every aspect of life and every background,” he added.
“I think the best thing about a football locker room is that people can come together and achieve a common goal. I think that if we can do that as a nation, we can get the best out of each other.
“Around other people I don’t think about political views I think about how they treat people and I was with a lot of great people this weekend.”
